Who will you pick in the Kentucky Derby future wager?
I am thinking about trying this although I have little luck picking Ky Derby winners.

Does anyone know if the Roadtotheroses fantasy game is going to happen this year?
Thank you everyone for the great answers!! I like It's My Lucky Day,Shanghai Bobby and Revolutionary. There are many good horses and you just never know.

It is hard to pick a best answer, but since Sandra answered about my roadtotheroses ? too,I will pick her answer as best. I was too late to enter the Winstar challenge.

The sawbucks went down on Itsmyluckyday, though punters are pounding down some of these runners as if the race is tonite. I thought that game ceased being offered a few years ago -- WinStar has a contest, though it started last week.

Hi PonyGirl !!
No, I Dont know at this time about the Roadtotheroses fantasy game , but i will check it out and see what i can find. Sandra will probably fill you in on this information.
Any way my future wager at this time would be ITSMYLUCKYDAY Who set a track record and earned a beyer speed figure of 104 in defeating Shanghai Bobby in his last race.

i'd pick Shanghai Bobby.
i still believe in the little colt, & he also set a track record even though he was beat.
itsmyluckyday did beat him, but he left a lot of other horses in the dust.
hes been pretty consistent. so he'd be my pick.

I never bet on the future pools since so much can happen between now and the first Saturday in May. But, since this is just for fun I'll give it a try.

Pick 1: Revolutionary. I know he only won the Withers by a neck, but considering he was stuck behind horses for virtually the whole race, his final surge was impressive. And, his Best Beyer of 102 is nothing to sneeze at.

Pick 2: Verrazano - another real risk since he hasn't beaten anything. But, for a young 3-year old, his 105 Beyer is quite impressive. Also. he's by More than Ready - a horse who has a special place in my heart.

Pick 3: Normandy Invasion:

I really like Shangai Bobby, just have too many concerns about whether he can get the distance to select him.

Hi Ponygirl- Regarding Roadtotheroses fantasy game when registration becomes available it should be at site. Usually around mid-February we start to hear about it..a tad to early it seems since they are showing 2012 results:
When available the official rules and a complete list of prizes for the “Road to the Roses” Kentucky Derby Fantasy Challenge can be found at Web site http://www.Facebook.com/RoadToTheRoses.

Also, it's really tough picking a Kentucky Derby winner, and a tough race to handicap with so many horses running in it. Also, more than not the race winner doesn't add up to be the most talented horse either, but the horse who is lucky enough to get a good clear/clean trip...with the unexpected usually happens..making us all in the same boat so to speak. Right now though, the name of the game, and the fun is in the prep races leading up to the derby. As time goes by on the road to the roses we'll learn more, for now my top 3 are (not necessarily in that order) Smile

1.Shanghai Bobby
2.Violence
3.Itsmyluckyday

How about you..??

Edit: You have some really good interesting answers.. Smile

Honestly, I don't know. I like 'Vyjack', a gelding by Into Mischief owned by Pick Six Racing and trained by Rudy Rodriguez and Under Jockey Cornelio Velasquez.
Actually, everyone has good picks! We have quite a ways to go.

I picked 5 horses in an exacta box (must pick first and second place finishers). $2 Exacta Box 7,14,18,21,24 for a total of $40. (Using 4 horses would cost $24, 3 horses would be $12 - not sure if you can make a $1 Exacta Box but if so the price halves - as does the payout).

7 - Flashback - Lightly raced but might be the best west of the west. About 12-1 odds right now.
14 - Overanalyze - Gutty Remsen win, might run well if it rains Derby Day. 40-1
18 - Super Ninety Nine - Longshot play but I like his breeding alot. 60-1
21 - Violence - Very nice horse. Unbeaten with nice looking wins. 12-1
24 - All Others - Simply have to use this one in an exacta play. The heavy betting favorite. 7-5 odds. Ew.

2 Pletcher trained horse, 2 trained by Baffert. Top trainers with strong stable who know how to get horses to the Derby. Pletcher trains 7 of the 23 individual betting interest. Baffert has 4. Hoping the field doesn't figure into the Exacta but it's sort of a saver.

It's tough to play a single horse in the Derby future pool because many simply don't make the race and your bet loses before the race is run. Using a few horses in an Exact Box you at least have a decent shot at getting a horse or two in the race. The 'All Others' selection wins the Derby a lot and they always have an entry so half the battle is already won. Exacta's are tougher to hit but the payout can be huge.
