I have a Dell PC and am running Windows XP. I have mostly used Google Chrome now it just stopped working.?
I uninstalled it from (remove/add programs) and tried to download it again.Every timee I try a message pops up that says "Google Chrome has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for any inconvenience. I even tried where it says retry and same thing happened.
The only thing I know about computters is how to turn it on get to internet , facebook, games etc... As far as browers and all that I am lost. I now have no choice but to use Internet Explorer and it goes so slow and every time I click to go on some where it opens a whole new page and takes forever to load, and is always popping up when my grand son is playing Jumpstart.
WHY WILL GOOGLE CHROME NOT INSTALL? I have been using it all along til itt just stopped working about a week ago? Is there another browser I can use with Windows XP? Why does Internet Explorer take so long to load and why does it open up a new page every time I click on something? Chrome never did that. ( ex: if I am on fb and want to comment when I click on comment I have to wait for IE to open up a new page before I can comment at that rate so may pages are open) What can I do??? Please try to make answer easy to follow cause grandma here knows very little about computers. Thank You

To be honest I don't know why, it could be a number or things. To be a smartass, it's cause you have a Dell PC....

Hello Grandma Carol,

I am from Dell Social Media and Community.

Most of the times for the explorer to crash the possible reason is windows operating system.

Since you have noted that you do not know much about computers, I will recommend you to restore your system to a previous date when it was working fine.

Log on to Windows as an administrator.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
On the Welcome to System Restore page, click to select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option, and then click Next.
On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.
Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
Log on to the computer as an administrator. Then, click OK on the System Restore Restoration Complete page.

If you successfully restored your computer to a previous state and the computer runs as expected, you are finished.

If this has not helped you or if you need any further assistance, feel free to message me on Twitter. I will be happy to assist.

The guy from Dell forgot to mention that when doing a system restore you will lose everything you have saved since the date you will be restoring your computer to. This means that if you are, say, restoring to last Friday 4pm, any documents, games, photos or other files that have changed or were created starting from 4pm on Friday will be gone unless you save them to external storage.
Before resorting to such drastic measures, I'd recommend checking your system for viruses and malware and running some simple maintenance and cleanup - it may just solve your problem. If you don't have any favorites, use Avast Antivirus, Malwarebytes Antimalware and Auslogics BoostSpeed for this. The first two are free, BoostSpeed isn't, but the free trial lets you do everything you need at this point (go to the Advanced Tools tab to use the main tools in the program, such as disk cleanup, defrag, repair, startup manager, etc.). Run full scans with both Avast and Malwarebytes (one at a time). If you already have another antivirus installed, use that instead of Avast, or disable it when you use Avast, otherwise the two programs will conflict.
You can also try downloading Chrome in "safe mode with networking" - you can get to it by repeatedly pressing the F8 button when your computer starts to boot until you see a menu where this will be an option. Same with antivirus programs - if unable to download, install or run them in normal mode, do it in safe mode first. Hope this helps. Good luck!
