iMac Screen too Dim on Full Brightness?

Recently the screen on my iMac is very dim, like it usually was right before it went into sleep mode. I tried changing the brightness but it is at full brightness. Right when I click to "wake" the computer up it is at full brightness for a second then reverts back to very dim. I don't want to spend $50 for an Apple one time help call and hoping that someone knows how to fix this!

hi try rebooting if that does not work reinstall the os on it that will work its just a software issue mine does it all the time reinstalling should sort it
