Okay, so I've been crushing on a guy for a few months now. I'm 18 and he's 21 and goes to the same uni I'm in. We mostly talk through twitter, and we share a lot of interests in music, movies... But when I see him he has a lot of girly gestures, like the way he walks or dresses. And here's my other dilema; he dresses kind of hipsterish, like skinny jeans, plaid shirts, vans, and I know it sounds stupid, but sometimes I can't really distinguish between homo and hipster...plus, as we study architecture, most of the guys in my university are gay...I really don't know what to think.
He usually makes comments like; that girl is so hot, I'd make out with her...But he still looks kind of gay to me in many aspects, and I don't know if he's trying to hide his homosexuality when he makes that sort of comments

Start talking about celebrities. Ask "Who would you go gay for?". If he's like "Oh, I'm gay", then ask "Who would you go straight for?".

Seriously, this is the best method for determining sexuality or gender, assuming the person is out of the closet and isn't bisexual.

Edit: Oooh. That's real tough. I would still do the above and see how he reacts. A really quick response (a little too quick), or getting defensive may be signs that he's in the closet. You could try flirting with him briefly, see how he responds. If you still can't really differentiate, you just gotta play the waiting game, or just try to go for a relationship with him anyway.

Likely gay although my friend sarcastically acts gay to piss off heterosexuals even though he's straight so I don't know.

Could be gay, bisexual, metrosexual, or just overall feminine with an interest in women. He could be hiding it with those comments or he might actually want to make out with them. Get him around a friend with really good gaydar. Without indicating that you think this guy is gay, ask the friend what he or she thinks (say, "he's kinda cute" or something of that sort). Or you could take the blunt route and ask. No, I do not mean, "Are you gay?" because that could make someone defensive. Instead, ask, "So do you like girls or guys?". That wording is completely neutral and should be met with a calm answer.
