You need to do a few things.

First, do you have your Keywords and Meta Tags set up on your website? You also need to have a Links or Link Exchange page. This really helps.There are many free link exchange sites.

There are MANY places you can advertise for free. Groups such as Yahoo, Google,etc. As well as Social Networks like FaceBook, Ning, MySpace, Bizpreneur, etc. There are a ton of them.

Create your own Groups and make sure to add your website URL as well as a description of your website and what it offers. What else helps is to add articles to your groups, pages, etc as well as your website. Make sure you add new content often.
