Was the hippie movement in Asia, Middle East and Africa?
I'm just wondering, because those areas seem uptight, especially towards social issues. If they haven't, then maybe they need a hippy movement

No. Actually western media distorted everything the hippies called for and it was packaged and beamed as fashion towards the third world. For instance the elite and upper class are the one who will consume this hippie culture. In Egypt during the 1970s the upper class and the filthy rich bought into this. They were called "Khanafes" خنافس aka Beatles though it really meant hippie. The word was used for the Afro hair not the Beatles hair. It was just the American thing. Only the rich can afford this. Even in today's world, the hiphop culture, though ghetto in America is consumed by the upper calls world wide as the American thing.
