let her know that there are no viruses on facebook, and that you wont go to any potentially harmful websites. Also, get her to download a virus protection system for her computer. you can get one for free, just google: "avg free", and then she wont have much to worry aout

~~If you or anyone in your family ever connect to the internet you are at risk of a virus if you do not have a current version of an anti-virus program. So either never connect to the internet, or ask if you can install the anti-virus program.

My favorite is Mcafee and I just use the online version. It is always updated, never have problems or conflicts with it, and it's only $35 a year which is cheap if you think of what a virus can do to your computer. So that is the only argument, it's valid and very important. There are free ones available, but I know people who have used them and still picked up a virus. I've used McAfee since the 90's and never have had a virus.~~

Sorry but I'm on your Mom's side with this one. There's so much going on right now in the news and such about Facebook being a threat to young people in many ways - the virus explaination may not be her real reason. In any case, you have to try to respect your mom seeing as its her computer, her house, her rules. And don't worry, Facebook will soon fade out anyhow and soon enough a new networking site will be the only "cool" one to have! Just try to remember that when you've got a job and you buy your own computer you can do what you like with it. Smile

Facebook is riddled with viruses. The worst is the Koobface virus, which posts links to your profile which appear to be from your friends.

In a way, your mum is right. You probably WILL get a virus if she lets you have a Facebook profile.

The only way to convince her is to RESEARCH KOOBFACE. Figure the little fucker out. It's a terrible virus which sits in your hard drive trying to steal your identity.

Go to YouTube and type Koobface into the search box...... watch some vids.

Then type koobface facebook into the search box..... watch some vids.

In particular.... find out how to remove facebook viruses from your hard drive.

Then ask your mum again. She'll see that you're serious about avoiding viruses.

...........imagine if you skipped along and leaped straight up onto Facebook and all of a sudden all your mum's credit cards were being used by someone else, accounts drained, drivers license being used as I.D. in the commission of crimes... email addresses sold to black market spammers.... this is what Koobface hackers do with your hard drive.

mwah

good luck with ya mum...... yeah someone else on here said tell her half a billion people cope just fine.... but this would not be true..... lots of people have been disabled by viruses.

Do the right thing kid.

xo
