Can people see my facebook password while i use an unsecure network?
are people able to see my facebook, yahoo, msn passwords if i log into them while connected to an unsecured network? my laptop picked up the signal to one.... it is unsecured though =S if i use something like meebo to log, will they still be able to see it??
will they also be able to access my pics, or send me a virus without me knowing?

Actually, you're generally still safe. Network security encrypts everything going over the local network, but even when it's turned off, communication with secure Websites (HTTPS sites) is still secure. This is an end-to-end encryption between the browser and the website and is independent of network security.

As long as you see the security padlock on your browser, rest easy.

Yes. When you login to facebook make sure you use https://www.facebook.com (HTTPS)
The password is being send across the wire. If someone in you subnet is scanning the network then they will get the information. The S on HTTPS will encrypted that data making it harder to figure out the content.

If you like my answer, I appreciate if you could post a feedback on my website. The site is http://www.snc-llc.com/feedback.php.
