How to talk to crush on social network?

So at the end of the school year last year I started to like this girl, but before I could really talk to her school ended and I had no way of talking to her during summer. Anyway I come back to school to find out she changed schools (a school very close to mine, same city) so I really have no way to talk to her in person. I can talk to her over social networking sites though (facebook, twitter) so I was wondering whats a good way to start a conversation on a social networking site without it becoming awkward. I appreciate any answers, thanks!

this is your golden oppurtunity because she's not really going to see you in person unless you bump into her at the shops or something, so if you mess up it wouldn't matter because no one at school would tease you or anything.
just say "hi " then wait for her to reply....she might not reply, depends how well she knows you or she might not want to talk to you because she doesn't know what to say after the hi
if she doesn't reply and you know she has seen the message, wait 2-4 minutes and if she still hasn't reply, type"idk if u remember me but i used to go to your school, and i didn't get to say bye to you...i'm the kid that hangs out with(friend's name)?"
then she'll rpely "oh yeah i remember you"
you type "yeah just wanted to say bye, hope your having fun at your new school "
she'll reply "thanks"
you type "just saying i live around the area, near your school i might see you some time"
and then the convo go on...but yeah like thats how you can start a convo
you can also start the by saying "hey how's the new school?" and ask questions about her school
after you guys have chatted for quiet a bit, just get in there...like say "you know i did think you were really pretty like you had really nice eyes" like compliment her...just tell her straight up that you liked her...and maybe you guys could catch up some time over the holidays, remember nothing bad can happen because she doesn't go to your school anymore
