Britian banned guns and they now have more violent crime than the USA and the rest of the EU. Why?
Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.

Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries.

The figures comes on the day new Home Secretary Alan Johnson makes his first major speech on crime, promising to be tough on loutish behaviour.

In the story you failed to read the following statistics are outlined:

The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 92 and South Africa 1,609. In the UK, there are 2,034 offences per 100,000 people, way ahead of second-placed Austria with a rate of 1,677.

The UK does not have more crime than the USA, your claim is ridiculous garbage.
The ENTIRE country of 80 million people has under a thousand murders a year.
America with about 4 times as many people has 30 times as many murders.

Japan, Monaco, and Hong Kong ban guns and they have the lowest violent crime rates in the world. Why is THAT? (Note that a violent crime RATE controls for differences in population, Mr. Genius First Answerer.)

UK murder rate = 1.2 per 100,000
Japan murder rate = 0.4 per 100,000

They both ban guns.

U.S. murder rate = 4.2 per 100,000.

So are you saying that having a UK level of murder is unacceptable, when in fact the murder rate in the UK is far lower than ours?

Gawd you people are stupid.

simply put violent crimes are not caused by guns or knives violent crimes are caused by criminals.

it is important that people understand that these figures are for violent crime not specifically murder.

They made a paradise for criminals who know they can rape and rob without fear of meeting any resistance unless police happen to be in the area.

Mexico banned guns as well, but who run the show down there? The government or the Cartels?

Actually no, they aren't. That article is several years old and doesn't give a complete picture of the situation.

They don´t.
YOU use FAKE statistics (because Britain doesn´t record "violence" or crime statistics the way the US does for example).
But fact is the US has about 5 times the murder rate than the UK has.
You can not deny this because this is a well proven fact.
Now deal with it.

"Congratulations" you just made a total fool out of yourself by mentioning austria
(I´m a german who is living there since about 8 years and i guarantee you that Austria is one
of the most safe countries on this planet).
Newsflash if you lose your passport in Austria the police asks you if it was stolen or if you lost it.
And if you don´t say that you have been totallly drunk and threw it from a bridge they will count it as stolen because if you don´t remeber how you lost it your passport COULD have been stolen.

Didn't read the article, did you? Yes, according to their statistics they are the most "violent." But they are also the most severe in how they categorize a violent crime. For example, the article says, someone who tries to kill themselves is put into the violent category, but they aren't hurting anyone else.

It also states they had only a little over 900 murders in the country, whereas, South Africa had several thousand. Bet it would be more if England had more guns in the streets.
