Untold stories, unseen war - The Hindu. Why Indian media turned a Nelson's eye to the hidden war?

But if the strategic importance of other countries closed to the media, like, say, Iran, makes the Western press try harder to get at the news in those areas, the failure of Indian journalists to probe Sri Lanka’s “hidden war” is that much more stark. “Sri Lanka is a neighbour. It is surprising that an Indian journalist has not done it (the kind of investigation Harrison has done). There are thousands of Sri Lankan Tamils sitting in Chennai, with their stories….”

There are numerous gaps in information, she says, like how many went to India, how many visas were issued post-2009. “I hope that Indian journalists will take up the baton, in a sense.”

what you are saying is true, the agony is our media is more prone to go behind celebrities, even the indian masses at the heart of india are not covered. beside this the eastern region of india have several human right problem, apathy of center government and the opposition too in the eastern part of India not covered by media.
Sri-Lanka is the neighbor, but who will buy those stories who is going to read even if journalist lose their lives?
People in our country even in metro cities don't even know where is their MLA/MP lives? what is his/her name, before he/she contest the election or which ever the time his party gives the ticket to contest the election, his public profile or his record of any social activity is not made public. people know this date is the election they go for the vote? finish whom we vote we don't know, you say now what media does here? is media sensitive vigilant for these issues.
Many film stars given Rajya Sabha seat why? while announcing seat for them in the Parliament, never made any public announcement why or on what ground he or she became our law maker, most of them become our law maker on sexual explicit seens?

The prestigious padma award given to famous heroins or hero of commercial cinema why for politicaltical gain, what is the public character of ours, these people who give very very intimate seen on exchange of heavy money in commercial cinema are the Padma of our country?

why Padma award or any other bravery award was not given to Keenan Santos and his friend Reuben Fernnandes not given who brutally killed & lost their lives when they stood up against goons for saving the girls from getting the sexually haharassedinstead the Padma award goes to ashwarya roy or kajol? for commercial cinema? our media never look into these question, what moral they carry, you can not expect them to cover the Hidden war in our neighboring country.

Indian Media has yet to come of age.Journalism is a profession to serve the public by correct reporting with dynamic approach through proper investigation. But Indian journalists are sycophants of the ruling party and become timid in investigation etc. That s why the plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka is not reflected to the people at large.Even Tamil journalists do not bother as they used to do the second fiddling to the so called guardian of the Tamils for their personal gain.
