What happens to someone's Facebook after they die?

Does it just sit there forever if no one takes it down? Or does Facebook take them down for inactivity after awhile? Or can the family write Facebook and request it be taken down?

Nothing it stays there until someone they know takes it down.

know's the person password and is part of there family
if the person didnt share its password it will stay there.
if facebook find out it only depends.

Unless someone takes it down i guess it would just sit there, sure somebody will make sure it gets taken down though.

My friend was killed in afghan 2 years ago. His profile is still there unchanged last time I checked.
