Does anyone actually click ads?
I don't see how internet ads ever make money, it's pretty commonsense not to click them and most people have adblock anyway. So what's the point of paying a website to host your ad when most likely no ones gonna click it? Or are some people actually stupid enough to click one? Even if they do click it, no one would ever put in their credit card info... right? So I don't see how online ads make money.

In general ads doesn't make any business money on the Internet or off. As one company statement about advertising stated, we know half of the advertising we do doesn't work but we don't know which half. That statement came from a company called Electrolux Ltd. in the UK. Some people do click adds depending on what is being advertised and if they are interested in the product or services. Some people do put in their credit card details if they can trust the website they are going to deal do business however there are many Internet businesses that no one can trust because they are crooks.

If its on search engines, there are high chances that your ad will be clicked because people come there looking for information.

If its social networking, pay per click model will not work. A related sponsored wall post(incase of Facebook) would work.

Similar goes the saying, if its micro blogging (Twitter).

For service differentiating websites like LinkedIn, Flickr, Scribd, Hubpages, PRPSolutions, EasyBm,KeeperAnt either you pay for premium services or innovate on your ad placement. Thats how you advertise and make money.

Generally when people visit a site on searching a particular topic and they dont get enough information they may definetely some of ads. There are chances for clicking the ads if the ads are more value added to the customers.
