Put your dvd in the slot on the side of the laptop.

Hello,
My name is Krishna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. Microsoft is discontinuing codec support for DVD playback in Windows 8. A codec allows the system to recognize the format of an audio or video file, and to then decode the file so that it can be listened to or viewed. Think of a codec as a translator.

To play DVDs in Windows 8, you need to have Cyberlink PowerDVD. You can launch this software from the Start Menu. Because there’s no longer a Start button in Windows 8, you can summon the Start screen any of these ways:

- Mouse: Point your mouse in the screen’s bottom-left corner and then click when the Start icon appears.
- Keyboard: Press the Windows key.
- Touchscreen: Slide your finger inward from your screen’s right edge and then tap the Start button.

The Start screen appears, bringing a screen full of tiles representing many of your apps and programs.

If you don't find Cyberlink PowerDVD in the Start Menu, you can download it from https://smartsource.dell.com/. You need to register yourself using the system's Service Tag number. Hope this helps.

Regards,
