Increasing restaurant awareness, online or other avenues?

I live in Vancouver BC and am looking for ways to expose our restaurant to a wider client base. We have a good location, unique food, great cocktails,wine, beers, and excellent service at reasonable prices. The challenge is getting our name out to the business and residents within the direct area- lunch and drink specials, catering, etc. Traditional newspaper/radio etc does not generate enough revenue to cover the cost, and most people throw out mail flyers without even reading them. Any ideas are most welcome!

Pinterest, Facebook ads, as chef back in the 1990's word of mouth only does so much, sponsorship of festivals and special events, gitchy promos like t-shirts, the old match book and business cards still sell.
