What does a person gain when a tweet says top tweet under it?

Like that, it says "Top Tweet" what does that mean? Does it mean that it's advertised on https://twitter.com/#!/TOPTWEETS or just labeled that because it's the most Favorited/Retweeted etc.

means a lot of people "retweeted" and that sends it out to their followers as well. When a person gets top-tweeted, they usually recieve more followers as well since its usually funny or clever.
