how do artists that get recognized through social media get fame?

like the artists that put music on facebook, youtupe, etc...do they have to get signed, copyright their music, or something else to keep people from stealing it. Or, does putting it up first give them any legitimate rights to the song.

They have to copyright it, and to answer your question, the fame is all about other people sharing it with their friends and/or the right person finding them and sharing them, then after that they usually get signed.
