I need an example of someone not using technology and missing out?

An anecdotal story of how someone was harmed because they didn't take advantage of technology or social media
Preferably, it is a specific story with names, real events, etc.This is for a persuasive speech.

I'm lost or hurt in the wilderness...with no food, water or
Cell Phone. A bear is chasing me. With no cell phone,
I cannot inform anyone of how I died when that dam bear
catches me. (and the bear is closer than a GPS signal anyway)...
I'm screwed ! Now this is a ficticious story, mind ya....

There are a lot of them out there involving individual as well as nations

In WWII Japan did not invest in Radar research. High quality binoculars were good enough
In 1942 - they won some night battles
By 1944 - they were meat on the table as Radar directed gunnery blew them away before they ever knew the other ships were there

In individuals - look no further than that famous commercial
"Help, I've fallen and can't get up"
