The name - friendster? myspace? These sound immature or just young.

Public - I think more people are more aware of facebook.

Platform - It's cleaner than myspace - less clutter.

According to the Social Network Movie it was due in part to being started by a bunch of elitists(Harvard students) who then went on to refer high ranking members of society. Later it developed due to the overall personal nature of it, in that it encourages people to share everything for others to easily see.

Do you share my idea that a social networking site need new turnovers regularly ! The Fb people know all the ropes. They placed strategically placed ads, lured youngsters into finding willing and mod friends. It further kept adding new features in between times. Accessibility to other sites was made more easy with good tie ups. In near future I'll not wonder if it introduces Q & A pages. They collect the gist from other sites and improvise their own.
Fb Fb Fb became so renowned that eager beaver members abandoned their long standing loyalty and found a new place . In the process weak and struggling social sites collapsed thus making Fb the reigning King or Queen of Social Networking.

MySpace has killed themselves trying to be like Facebook. Facebook had way more success for keeping their privacy in the last 2 years, while Myspace has ruined everything for privacy since last year, to the point where you can see what comments people post.
