How to explain my parents that I made a facebook?

I am a good student, high grades, but because of that I don't have time to go out, sometimes on weekend that's it. Because of that, I feel really lonely, I am a human too, I want to see what people like, talk with them, so I made a Facebook. I only posted one pic so people can recognize me and I am very careful of what im doing or posting. My parents always agreed with my decisions throughout my life and I feel like this secret can't hold for too long, Someday they will find out.... They afraid that it's a bad influence, i had fb for a year now and I am still A student. They are also afraid of stalkers even trough my profile is in max security and I don't add random people, only my friends-there are not that many of them either, like 40.... What should I do?

If I tell them they will freak out
I was also depressed for almost a year, because my crush rejected me.... so i needed to talk to somebody, besides my parents
