Good places for blogging?

So, I am considering starting a blog. No particular topic, just rants and thoughts and what not. If anyone knows a good place to do so, where people will actually be able to come across it and read it, I would appreciate knowing. I haven't really found much out there that strikes me as what I'm looking for

well if all depends on what you want and because you want rants an thoughts then I would chose blogger because it is the simplest to use and made for it

Blogger (http://blogger.com) is by far the best free blogging service. No matter you use Blogger or other services, you have to promote a little bit for people to know your blog and come over.

Blogger / Blogspot is about as good as gets with the mainstream free blog sites... now part of google, so it's also easier to integrate Google AdSense ads into there if you decide to try making a bit of extra cash out of it.

One lesser known blog service, that I made myself with the "Boonex Dolphin" social networking PHP script: http://allthesocialnet.com/blogs/home/
The user interface is pretty similar to Blogger / Blogspot, and with it you also get a Social Networking website similar to how MySpace used to be (apart from the fact it hasn't built-up as big a user-base yet)....... you get photo albums, can embed youtube vids, post classified ads, has a forum, file storage + sound upload.... and you can register via Facebook connect.

This is going to depend on if you want to host it yourself or you want someone else to host it for you. Both have their pro's and con's!

Free sites like Blogger.com, Weebly.com, Blog.com have absolutely no money involved. You blog. That's it. You may get an add on domain like Blogger.com/yourname or something like that. But, it's not going to be very personalized by any means. You may get to choose a few color or theme templates, but that's about it. This is a great option for people that are new to the internet or new to building sites because there is not much involved in the way of hosting or coding. Some of these sites DO have restrictions about what you can write about. Make sure if you choose this option, you check the rules and guidelines out.

Paid sites like Wordpress or Joomla allow YOU to host the website yourself. While Wordpress and Joomla cost nothing, the hosting and the domain name will. Hosting, depending on who you choose and what package you choose can cost anywhere from $5 a month on up to $20 a month for shared hosting. Shared hosting, means that you and MANY other people will be using the same "line" of hosting. Note: Its still a private network, its simply your own private "chunk" of the host. Dedicated hosting means you get your own hosting network, but this is usually recommended for people that are going to run big sites like ecommerce sites, stores, e-malls, etc. You would definitely want shared hosting. As far as domain names go, unlike the free sites, you will choose your own domain name ie; yourwebsite.com or yourdomainname.com. Domain names cost only a few dollars -- per year. I buy mine from NameCheap.com at around $10 a pop (per year). You can also use the code golddeal and you can get a few dollars off of the domain name. Wordpress and Joomla are actually easier to set up than people think. There are a ton of free templates (usually with a few color options). You can blog away on your own network, about anything your little heart desires.

Personally, I use Wordpress for ALL of my websites. Plus, with Wordpress and Joomla, you can also add other pages besides blogs (if in the future you ever want to offer anything else). I think Wordpress is a lot easier than Joomla. But, that's just my opinion - a Wordpress user for over 7 years and an internet user for over 15 years :o)
