Why can strangers like my pictures on facebook?

Ok, I have ALL of my albums, pictures, and facebook set up so that only friends should be able to see my pictures and my wall. But I've been noticing people liking my pictures that AREN'T my friends. They are friends of my friends, but the confusing part is that those friends of mine aren't even tagged in the picture. So there is no reason that they should see it and be able to like it, because their friend isn't even in it.
I have checked and checked, and everything is clicked to "Friends" as who can see my stuff. What the heck?
they aren't subscribed to me... The problem is that I have my facebook set up so that only my friends can see their stuff. But I find it stupid that as soon as one of my friends likes or comments on something of mine, suddenly it is now not only visible to them, but their friends too. What's the point of putting that only my friends can see it, when that totally changes once my friend likes or comments on something? Now it's visible to THEIR friends.
