Well, perhaps It's just your personal perspective of the situation after all, since there are mean people everywhere. The problem here is that you should be choosy about what kind of people you talk to.

And about facebook friends, well i think it's just because people don't think consciously about being selective when adding friends, they just click giving no importance to the matter of having supposed friends, because they're not real friend necessarily.

On tumblr you follow people because you like them or the things they post and they don't have to follow you back, and on facebook you friend someone because you know them, even if you're not necessarily friends and you see all of each others' post even if both of you hate everything the other says
