Are there any text chat messengers which you can use on your phone?

I am speaking to someone who, for a reason I cannot disclose, wants contact with me, but preferably not via facebook, skype, yahoo messenger or google plus.

Are there any text-chat apps or messengers which you can use on both your laptop and cell phone which aren't any of the four programs above?
