Need help with a sociology essay question.?

'Examine the differences in cultural explanations of child attainment in education'

I missed my last sociology lesson so I could not ask my teacher for help. I understand to an extent what I have to do, but can anyone help me with the question as in how to answer, what to include, translate the question etc that would be great.

The standard topics would be gender differences, social class differences, Special Educational Needs (SEN). I'd analyse each topic, compare them, and have a look at media representations of child attainment (due to the question asking for cultural explanations).
