Why facebook can't be a place to make friends?

Always the ask to be friend with the people that we know. Why? Is it about the privacy? Why we can't make new friends from fb. Only people are related with the friend request and confirmation. If they don't mind it. Why they can't be friends? Explain. I want to clear my dought. thanks

First of all you are putting photos of yourself up for anyone to see and say you become friend with a strange guy and then you make a status saying for example "going on holiday for two nights to ...." Then for 1 he then knows ur name and where u will be and second he knows ur house will have know one is home. So obviously it's an unlikely thing to happen but u can't trust everyone and you could end up asking a new friend to meet you somewhere and u turn up and that arnt who that said they were so just stick to the people you actually know
