What would cause my computer to run slow?
My computer is running slow and sticky when I'm online. It's mostly Facebook and the apps are really bad. Ran Norton (I know isn't a favorite of most computer geeks, but it's what I got), and it didn't pick up anything. Suggestions?

If there is another computer in the house, they could be downloading something, which would cause your internet go slower. Of course, there is also the possibility of viruses.

1.Too many programs running at once.
2. You have viruses.
3. Your computer is old.

If your cache is being filled you can try clearing that. Where to do that depends on browser.
And a program I have found useful to clean a computer is a free program called CCleaner. Google it and find one attached to a site Piriform or Filehippo. The first time run, you will be amazed at how much stuff is cleared up.

well i would say your computer has too much stuff heres some ways to clean it daily:
1. go to the bottom left corner click the button and type in "prefetch" and click enter and when the folder comes up delete evething from it and empty recylce bin
2. this is the same as # 1 but instead of prefetch type in "%temp%" but never put in the ""
3. all programs, accecories, system tools and click disk cleanup and click ok and then when the thing pops out after done scanning click ok and then delete
4. go to your main folder, its like the one with the name you made up when u got ur computer go to downloads and delete anything that you dont't need anymore ( this deleted like 4GB of unneeded stuff for me) and then empty recyclebin. if you want go on youtube and ull c

Reasons can be almost anything from dust inside your computer case (open it up and use Dust Off from a distance to clean it, make sure to disconnect power first) or could be malware (try malwarebytes, best there is for that stuff). Also try going to the start menu > accessories > system tools, and running disk defragmenter and disk cleanup. I am assuming you mean your computer has issues with other applications while also using internet. If it is just load times, (are you wired or wireless?), try a new router.

If application issues, try this order

Disk Defrag and Disk Cleanup,
Malwarebytes
Dust-off
Make sure your hard drive isnt full (go to my computer, right click on c:/ then click properties)
Get the program Auslogics Boostspeed (Its amazing)

Its possible your bandwidth/connection is slow...If you have wifi and if its an open network-I would suggest turning on some security encryption like WEP,WPA on the modem/router. ---If you don't use wifi, then it's more than likely either your broswer, slow computer, or viruses/spyware. I know that you have run norton, try installing another program like spybot and scan with that...sometimes it needs 2 or more programs to find something.

If your computer is going slow as well you could try removing unwanted/unused programs first and then install and run ccleaner...If you have Windows 7 and a 2+gig usb drive, you could use that as extra memory called readyboost...

Your computer might have lots of programs running. Viruses spyware might be an issue. download a free program called CCLEANER and install it run it. It will remove a lot of the cached files stored from the internet pages you have visited. Keep in mind if you use auto complete on some websites this program has been known to empty those fields so just make sure you know all your user name and passwords and you will be okay with that. After that I would run defrag assuming its a windows pc. most times its located in the system tools folder. you will need to select the drive to defragment in most cases it will be drive (CSmile this could take awhile to complete if you haven't done it before so be patient. Now lets just say if your computer itself is fine everything works quickly on it and you find the internet itself slow. Well assuming you have high speed dsl or cable. try to shut down your computer. Then unplug the power from the dsl or cable modem wait 60sec plug it back in. Then restart your computer. Deleting the prefetch files not a bad idea too. More info on your system would be better help to us ie What OS you use. Mac, Windows ver? then what build 98,2000,XP,Vista,Win7 anyway so many causes out there so good luck
