How much does it cost to text the US from UK?

Hi all,
I'm on orange uk and live in the uk
My friend lives in the us, with a us mobile number
We both have unlimited texts, but how much would it cost me to text them?
Also, how would i go about it?

just text your friend as if they were round the corner.
The idea of mobile phones is that they are mobile, so long as the network knows where they are you dont have to worry.

Say you go to spain, and I call you, I dont need to know you are in Spain because the network knows where you are, just like if you are here in the uk you could be in Leeds and I could be in Hull, your are in a different town, that town has a different area code, BUT you are on a mobile so the network knows where you are, I have no need to know.

Area codes are for LandLines, NOT mobiles

I'm part of the Vodafone Web Relations team and would like to offer some help and advice.

If you are in the UK sending a text message to an international number, you will have to enter the dialling code for the country the mobile belongs to. For America the dialling code is +1, so you would need to put this in before the rest of the number.

It costs 20p per message for you to send a text to an American number from the UK on Orange, you're unlimited text package wouldn't be used as this is only for UK numbers.
