US Department of Homeland Security Calls On Computer Users To Disable Java. Got yours shut off?
I called Norton and it is true. Actually they said:

Norton: Mike, even we are investigating this claim about a Java hack. As far as Java Microsystems is concerned, their last update indicates that this is just a claim from a hacker with a dubious background. However, just to be sure that you are protected, we advice to disable Java or always run live updates and do a scan.

Mike: ok .. thanks.

Norton: Still, prevention is better than cure.
Norton: I suggest to turn off Java for at least a week for your browser. Make sure thought that you have installed the standalone version of Java so that you can still play facebook games or other games requiring Java.

Mine is still enabled, mainly because I need Java to do my Android development.

DETAILS:

As of yesterday(1/10/2013) a new Java exploit has been developed and released to the cyber-crime community. It is currently in the wild and being used to distribute malware such as the Reveton Ransomware.

No one is safe from this exploit if you have Java enabled in your browser, it is targeting the most recent update however it will still work on previous versions. The best thing to do is disable Java entirely from running as a plugin on your browser. To do this, follow one of the above links and follow the instructions and restart your browser. If you are using Mozilla Firefox, Java might already be disabled because it seems that some browsers are taking the initiative and just disabling it automatically because of the threat.

NOTE to OP:
If you are just using Norton as your only line of defense for security software, it will NOT stop one of these Rogue attacks
