How to stop someone from messaging you on facebook?

To put it nicely, a person I don't want to block keeps messaging me on facebook.

First go offline. Next, click on the options button in your chat box (the little gear shaped thing). Go to advanced settings. Go the the option that says "Turn on chat for all friends except..." and put in the name of the person. That's all! Good Luck.

Well the most obvious thing to do would be to block them.

Meyn you 've gat no other valid option than to hit the damn block button or report the persons message as spam so he doesn't have to bother you again

You could delete them and adjust your settings so only friends can send you messages, but if you don't want to delete them just don't read or reply to their message. Or if you're talking about the 'chat' bar on the bottom right area of the screen, you can turn chat to offline in the settings.
