getting rid of 3rd party advertisements?

i'm not quite sure what they are called.
but on certain sites, there are advertisements that use user pictures (like facebook)
is there anyway to get rid of these?

You can get a program called privoxy, or if you use Firefox you can get an add on called AdBlock.

This is an addon to the browser that kills most ads.
