Facebook does not scan photos.
It is unfortunate that some teens have a bizarre sense of humor and would think it a great prank to introduce a virus onto a social networking site. The most likely way is by a link in a message or comment. Don't click on links unless you know the sender well

The short answer is "Yes"

Anytime you click a link regardless of where your clicking it there is the possibility that your computer might become infected with a virus.

The best advice I or anyone can give you is to run a good anti virus program (Free- AVG and Avast) and to only click on links from people you know and trust or on site that you can trust.

Also using a more secure browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox helps.

Just to clarify, you can get funky stuff on your computer if you click links that people post in comment boxes, status updates, and anywhere else. What Jim said basically.

However, you can't get a virus if you click on photos hosted on Facebook. At least, this is not yet possible.

photos can't be attached with virus BUT the site where the photos are displayed might contain a virus itself, which some are bundled with spywares and malwares. possibly clickable links which is not secured may contain virus too. to get rid of virus to some extent, have a good PC protection and do not ever open any downloaded things on net without scanning first for virus.
