Is the iPod touch 1st gen useless?
Just got hold of a touch 1st gen and updated it to latest software (iTunes says is 2.1 something) but when I try to download an app it says the version needs to be 3.0 or higher (I've tried this with a variety of apps from Facebook to Temple Run). Does that mean the app market has just surpassed 1st gen capability or is there something up?

When I select the device on iTunes and click upgrade it says it is running on the latest software.

Most apps need a minimum firmware of 3.0 but you can always use safari for apps like Facebook.

nothing is up it is just when they made the ipod they designed it to be as modern as possible, so the 2.1 is the ios which is updated every now and then i think now it is about 7.0 ios. when ever people make or update their apps it goes to the leatest ios. but the ipod was only designed to go up too 2.1 ios. itunes says it is running on the latest software which means it is running on the latest our ipod can go. nothing is wrong with it dont worry. i have the same problem Smile it will only be useless for downloading apps but itunes music will work fine and the internet and maps too Smile

The 1st gen iPod touch can update to iOS 3.1.1, however most apps require iOS 4.3 to work. So is it useless? Not entirely, but you should still get a 4th gen at least to be able to get the latest apps.
