If there are so many people complaining about how society's stuffed up why isn't it getting better?

I mean lots of people hate the generalizations and stereotypes of genders (eg to fit in these days (at least where i live) girls 'have' to wear pretty clothes and have pretty hair and guys have to have baggy shorts and a stylish baggy shirt) and how 'all teenagers have to have a boyfriend' and stupid 'rules' like that. Sure they tell you to be yourself and unique, but in reality lots of people don't do that because they are worried about their image and social life. If society's gotten so weird like that and so many people believe that, why the heck is it staying the same!!!? Sorry, just had to get that out there. Opinions?
