Dell desktop showing graphic card info but not going further beyond that screen?

Fan is working and powering on just fine....been a month since i last used the desktop when out worked just fine.i have a Dell optiplex gx280 windows XP thank you..

This may be a problem with the video driver as you have noted that it shows the video card information. It could also be an operating system issue.
