Customer Security: Basic Principles
Most ecommerce merchants leave the mechanics to their hosting company or IT staff, but it helps to understand the basic principles. Any system has to meet four requirements: privacy: information must be kept from unauthorized parties. integrity: message must not be altered or tampered with. authentication: sender and recipient must prove their identities to each other. non-repudiation: proof is needed that the message was indeed received. The biggest thing that social networks offer marketing managers is brand awareness. To tap into the real power of facebook and twitter, marketing managers need to create profiles in social networks like facebook, twitter, linked-in and others.
But beyond that they need to engage in the communities that these networks offer, and not just consistently trying to push out links for their products. They need to gather a following in whatever niche they represent and follow others. Get involved in the conversations and happenings, offer advice and information that is useful to that niche, and the community as a whole will be more receptive of getting the occasional promotional offer from that member. How does that tie into e-commerce? By slowly building a following in these social communities, and creating brand awareness of your product or service helps to build a trust between you and the people following you. Trust then equates to sales in the long run (isn't that what e-commerce is all about?). Hope that is useful!! |
