How to I get rid of the GT virus scan?
I stupidly opened it and now it just keeps popping up and running, and when I go on the internet it interferes with the location I want to go to? I have a virus protection program installed but it doesn't seem to get rid of this. It is also sending the virus to all my facebook friends continuously. Thank you.

Antivirus GT is a software infection designed by a group of hackers. Although it may look like an innocent antivirus program, the truth is that this is a virus and it is going to damage your computer. It works by installing itself on your PC and then trying to get you to buy the upgraded version of the software by showing you false virus threats. It will also attempt to steal various personal details on your system, such as your banking details and password. Here’s how to remove it…

Step 1:

*Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti Malware Free Version . Link:http://www.malwarebytes.org/

*Update your Anti-Virus and run a scan

Step 2:

*Kill Process antivirusGT.exe

You should open up the “Task Manager” by clicking CTRL + ALT + DEL and then click on the “Processes” tab. This will then display a list of running processes, where you should then be able to find the listed files above. Click on each one and then click on the “End Process” button to stop the program from running

Step 3:

*Delete Install Data

>c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\AVGT\
>c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\AVGT\AntivirusGT.lnk
>c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\AVGT\Uninstall.lnk
>c:\Program Files\AVGT\
>c:\Program Files\AVGT\antivirusGT.exe
>%UserProfile%\Desktop\AntivirusGT.lnk

These files are what Antivirus GT will use to help it run. In order to ensure that this virus has been removed from your system in its entirety, you need to remove all these files from your computer. To do this, you need to open up “My Computer” and then locate the directories in question. After you’ve found one, remove it by pressing SHIFT + DELETE on your keyboard (this permanently removes it instead of sending it to your recycle bin).

Step 4:

*Download CCleaner and clean your registry

Trying to fix a broken Microsoft Windows installation from within Windows is like trying to do a valve job on an engine while its running--the trick is to fix it from OUTSIDE Windows.

I do this by using a bootable LIVE anti-virus CD; doing it this way means the virus/Trojan is NOT in control. The tool I usually use is the FREE "Avira AntiVir Rescue System" CD, though similar free CD images are also available from AVG and Kaspersky.

If you need to find out how to turn ISO images into CDs, there are Internet tutorials galore.

A couple of tips after booting: click on the British flag to get the English labels and click the "Configuration" button to select the third option, which will attempt to heal the infected files and also select the option to rename them if they cannot be healed--the default option will find the bad files, but do nothing about them.

Download Malwarebytes and Combofix from a clean computer. Boot into safe mode no networking. Install and run each from there.
