I believe it expands our personal freedom, in both a positive and negative way. Depends on the person and how they use it.

As with all aspects of things in life to all depends on the extent of the involvement. I think given a moderate level of interaction with social media sites it will expand our person freedoms. But as the interaction increase you will reach a tipping point where you are dragged down by the need to interact on social media sites.

whoever originally asked you this question just wants to see what type of person you are. this has no definite answer, only opinions and what you think is more important.

social media has nothing to do with our freedom, really. we have freedom of speech, and freedom of the press and all that, but there are still rules to follow within those freedoms. for instance, you can tweet your friends about the killer party last night, but if you upload pornography and it is flagged, your account will be deleted.

you can become friends with a million Pakistani princes, but Trailer Park Billy down the street doesnt have internet access, or even a cell phone.

anyone looking to answer this question so that is pleases the masses will respond that social media expands personal freedom, but the fact remains that everything can be questioned.

what really is personal freedom? the ability to do for yourself, without fear of reprimanding?
ok, so can you poke all your friends on facebook, you can set up plans, post information and pictures, basically whatever the programming will let you do, but there are still the many many things that the programming will not allow you to do. so does social media really have an effect on our freedom? yes, there is definitely expansion of possibilities since the myspace and facebook boom. but at the same time, years from now we might think back to this decade and see it the same way you do now when you think about last decade playing sega saturn.

so, in a nutshell, im saying that while social media definitely expands our personal freedom, it also limits it in simple programming. you cant make a computer do something you dont know how to make it do.
