Sorry I should have explained better. I'm not talking about adwords or adsense. I'm talking about websites that sell their own ad space (graphic or text ads managed with an ad server) by the impression.

There are several different ways in which sites usually charge for advertising space:

1) CPC - cost per click - where you have to track the number of clicks an ad receives and then charge accordingly. This means you can set a uniform rate across the site, but can be time consuming to manage unless you use an affiliate network.

2) Cost per month - is much simpler - you just charge a flat rate per month. This normally varies based on the amount of traffic your site receives and where the ad is situated on your site.
