What is the best open source social networking software available?
I am looking to start a social network for my company and I am wondering if anybody knows of a good open source PHP based solution. I have found a few scripts worth considering like phpfox. Can anyone suggest a better script? I am weary of using free software for obvious reasons, you get what you pay for, your site really isn't yours...The list goes on.. Thanks in advance.

I use Dzoic Handshakes for my social network and it works really well.

I am not a programmer so I had to higher some coders to do most of the customizing. The good thing is that it's cheap compared to having a custom site built, a few hundred dollars verse a few thousand. You install the software on your server and begin customizing. It's that simple.

If you need custom work done on your site you will have no trouble finding quality programmers at the sites user forum. They all have a reputation to keep there so they won't burn you.

Here is a list of items I snagged from the dzoic.info site:

Admin Console
Install Guide
OpenSocial Plugin
Video Ads Plugin
Video Grabber Plugin
Load Balance Plugin
Tags
Social Bookmarking
Recording
Video Chat
Music
Videos
Flash Chat and Instant Messenger
Profiles
Blogs
Classifieds
Clubs
GetPaid
Forum
Polls

The list goes on and on...Oh and it's 100% open souce code...and it's PHP

I hope this helps. It took me awhile.
