Do you think facebook has become another popularity contest?

It seems a lot of people these days don't use facebook for communication, but rather, who can get the most likes on their witty post or their funny/cool picture. What is everyone's opinion on that?

hasnt it always been that way? (at least for young people)

older people do actually use it for communication and dont care how many likes they get

the kids usually try to use it to prove their popularity, and grown ups dont
