How do I trace an email address?
I recently had a severe virus on my computer, which included a keylogger. The passwords on my facebook, email, paypal, and various other sites were changed. I had roughly $200 on paypal, and when i recovered the account, it was all gone. I have an idea as to who did this, and i have their email address. Is there any way to trace to their IP or something? Via a program or something?

Never use AVG free. You definitely have a virus.

1. I have had to wipe and re-install many customers that have used "free" security programs.
2. People evaluate them on the basis of how often they get bothered by the program. A/V and firewall programs by their very nature and function must integrate themselves in every aspect of the computer. Not only the downloaded files, but every time something is starting up, and what is happening in memory. If you never get bothered, what is it doing?
3. A quality security program will learn. Eventually it will not bother you much at all. Others, just don't bother you at all.
4. Microsoft makes a great operating system. But I believe, they do not make a good security system. Otherwise, why not incorporate it in the operating system to begin with. The point is, they specialize in operating systems, not the security programs, or games, or anything else.
5. Other companies are specialized, and it is all they do, to provide security programs. Hence, they do that one thing well.
6. My recommendations are: Forget Microsoft anything. McAfee is good for home use. Kaspersky is excellent, but Norton Symantec is the best. Many of your free programs, if they ever do detect a virus, will refer you to SARC (Symantec anti virus research center) to both identify the virus, and what to do to remove it.
7. The true measure of these programs is not how, or how fast they detect a virus, but once detected, how to restore your computer to normal.

As far as tracing an email address, you will need to refer to the properties of the email to discover the originating ip address. There is a lot to it, if that is what you want to do, contact me.

Yes It's possible. I'm a private investigator and this is the kind of thing I do for a living. I'd like to offer a free initial consultation. But unfortunately the cost associated with identifying the hacker is more that the $200 they stole.
You caan contact paypal and explain you were hacked and they can help also.

you can not trace their ip personally, you need the help from the isp, report it to the police.
