Why did I get a friend request from someone "suggested by" a friend?

The friend request had the words "suggested by" someone on my friends list. Did the friend really suggest that person or was it the Facebook system that automatically picked a friend of my friend based on similar interests as me?

It isn't a friend request. If you click yes, it will send a friend request to the suggested person. And the real person suggested it.
