Is it too weird to start a friendship over facebook?

I never talked to this girl before and I really would like to. But, since winter break started today, i won't see her at school for a few weeks. So, I decided to overcome my shyness, and add her on facebook. Would it be awkward or she would be creeped out if I start talking to her?

Of course not, I've met some of my best friends through facebook. Its a really good chance for shy people to mix with others, just add her and strike a convo, don't come on too strong or anything and talk constantly cos she may be freaked out by that but just be yourself and have a friendly chat, I'm sure it'll be fine
