do blackberry apps work on wifi without having a provider(like verizon and such?

my friend is selling me a blackberry, but i wouldn't have any service, i was wondering if you could use the apps like facebook, twitter & such over wifi, without a service or a data plan, is that possible?

Hi, I've used Twitter and facebook with wifi only and without any data plan, so I know that's possible. The bad thing is that you won't be able to use Blackberry Messenger because it won't work without a plan..
