Why should we have advertising?

I am doing a debate and need some good points on why we need advertising. Please no one saying that we shouldn't have advertising. Keep in mind this is about ALL types of advertising.

Firstly, a general understanding about advertising - that is a public promotion of some product or service.

When we make an announcement whether in a classroom, school hall, during a church service, informing or telling your friends about it via email, it is already advertising something, intentionally or unintentionally. Word of mouth advertising is one of the most powerful advertising methods, whether offline or online. Social media networking is one of the best examples of word of mouth advertising in the digital world.

Ofcourse, it an organized way, advertising offline (news print ads, tv, radio, magazine, banner, etc.) and online, all in all are needed to promote an awareness or sell an idea or products or services. If there is no advertising or we jus keep quiet about it, how else would people know us?
