I don't feel comfortable posting the picture. If you'd like to see it try googling Larry Trotter granddaughter and you should get something.

My opinion: I didn't find the picture appropriate for various reasons, but I can't really talk about him too harshly. His granddaughter looked to be about 5 and that's when bath time should be private. If she's not bathing by herself it would probably be best to keep all things like that away from social media. Most of the outrage that I read from people (mostly women) wasn't about a grandfather being in the tub with his granddaughter. It was toward the fact that he's a man and the child is female. To me. That doesn't matter and is completely irrelevant. I was more grossed out seeing a grandparent that close to their grandchild and his explanation for the picture than gender. I can't think of a single person in my family who doesn't remember bathing with their parents as toddlers at least once... whether they're of the same sex (father/son, mother/daughter) or not (father/daughter, mother/son). So for me that's acceptable, because there are and never were any ill-intentions and it also helps save time and money. To see people saying: "No grown man should be in the tub with a female child" was a little off to me. If it's unacceptable for men then why should it be viewed as alright for women? Some of these women were even open about bathing with their kids (or letting their mother bathe with their child) and still professed views that it was perverted for the child's father/grandfather. One person even made the comment that she doesn't allow her daughter's father to change her diaper. What? What kind of person would knowingly have a child by someone they can't trust or they believe will bring harm to their kid? I'm not trying to attack all women and I apologize to anyone who feels that I am, but the things that were truly offensive (ranging from sexist and hypocritical to just plain offensive).
That last sentence should say: the things that were being said were truly out there (ranging from sexist and hypocritical to just plain offensive).

I accidentally deleted parts of the sentence and got lost lol. Sorry for any confusion..

I think people took it the wrong way. The picture was gross, but I can't speak on how innocent or bad it was, because I don't know how things are in their family. I have an aunt who grew up with 7 brothers, 8 sisters and it wasn't uncommon for her to bathe with both of her parents or some of her brothers. It was never sexual to them and still some of us view it that way.

I mostly agree with you. I don't see the big deal about the picture, but I can understand why someone might find it inappropriate. More offensive and inappropriate would be those kinds of comments that you describe. Wow. You'd think that we had progressed a little further than that. It's always depressing to see such open displays of ignorance and sexism.

I first saw the pic on Facebook.

The picture was very very inappropriate. It's very easy to get branded a "sex offender".

I do know the picture was innocent though. It looks like they were just having fun.

But he shouldn't have been in the tub with her regardless. He's the adult and knows better.

I don't feel he deserves to go to jail or whatever, but in this society, MEN especially need to be careful when it comes to these things.

There's a double standard but the negative stigma is more attached to men than women. A woman can do this without an issue but a man.. it's hell.

I know it's innocent but it was inappropriate and should not have been posted.

Did anyone else read the bit where he said that both he and his granddaughter had swim suits on?

It's not a picture of a naked man with a naked kid in a tub. It's a picture of a man in swim trunks sharing some bonding time with his granddaughter, who is also in swim trunks.

Even if they were naked, the story behind the picture makes it less inappropriate. He was in the tub having a bubble bath, his 4-year-old granddaughter walked in and asked if she could join him, as kids are wont to do, he said yes, and her mother took a picture. Naked or not, it's all very innocent and people are just freaking out for no reason. Yes, there are child predators and yes, you do have to watch out and protect children. But that doesn't mean that every instance of a man being close with a child, regardless of gender, is inappropriate.
