It seems to me they are often portrayed as promiscuous and having lots of babies. That is the stereotype many people believe about us. Why does the media depict stereotypes instead of the truth?

hispanics in general are portrayed pretty badly.. Not only women.. I don't know why though.. I also don't know why people look down on "Spanish". It's one of the most spoken languages in the world..

It's not that the media portray everyone badly, it's that the portrayal is exaggerated, though still accurate.

Hispanic women are typically 2 things: 1) poor, 2) Catholic. Poor people are typically more social and less considerate, meaning they indulge themselves in physical pleasures, whether it be sloth, gluttony, wrath, greed...lust. And Catholics don't wear condoms, so from all the over-indulging comes babies.

The results of the recent US Census confirmed everything above. A stereotype is simply a "rule of thumb"--if someone sees 7 out of 10 persons being a certain way then they generalize so they don't have to think and judge, rather instantly react. People don't just make this stuff up for no reason.

The media wants to perpetuate stereotypical roles for every race. Helps to keep us in our proper "place," and not usurp the "white man.". Sorry if this sounds racist, it's not meant to be.
