Fifty Shades of Gray?
Okay so everyone has been talking about this erotic book "Fifty Shades of Gray" but they have also been comparing it to vampire books including Twilight(I just read the yahoo article about it and mentioned Twilight) Does it have vampires in it? I'm not too interested in buying it but just wondering why they keep comparing it to vampire books?

No, no vampires. From what I understand, the book began as a Twilight fan-fiction story called “Master of the Universe” by someone who called herself “Snowqueens Icedragon” and has now revealed herself to be E.L. James, a TV executive, wife and mother of two in London.

I can't tell what that means- how do you write fanfic without including the characters from the original or at least setting it in their universe?- but it seems that they're calling it "Twilight for grown-ups" because it inspires the same sort of mania in women that Twilight caused in teen girls.

Hope that helps.

They keep comparing Fifty Shades to Twilight, because Fifty Shades is originally Twilight fanfiction story about Bella and Edward, and it’s called Master of The Universe.
Edward is not the vampire in it, because E.L. James had turned him into a Dom.

When Master of The Universe gained enormous popularity in Twilight fandom, Snowqueen’s Icedragon, aka E.L. James decided to change Edward and Bella into Christian and Ana and publish Master of The Universe as Fifty Shades of Gray, enjoying the huge support of her followers, also known as “bunker babes” from Twilighted.net. I think they even named her Edward Fifty Shades. She as well had huge support from part of twilight fandom on twitter.

She published her book with The Writer’s Coffee Shop – so called publishing house in Australia, found by another Twilight fanfiction writer, who started the web site in order to host most of the Twilight fanfiction stories that violated fanfiction.net’s Terms of Service. Most of those stories contain graphical description of sexual scenes including incest, rape and other types of extreme violence.

E.L James didn’t change much when turning MoTU into FSoG. Except for names and some places, Bella’s old track changed into old VW beetle and her brown eyes turned into blue. Her parents characters are still just like Renee and Charlie fromTwilight, Edward/Christian is still adopted, rich and stalker-ish. He still looks like Robert Pattinson and plays piano. He does not want to sink his teeth into Bella/Ana, but he wants to spank her ass instead. Bella/Ana is clumsy, self-centered, has a friend Jacob/Jose who digs her and tries to kiss her and so on. The book is full of Twilight-ish staff and it's kind of irritating.

It’s not worth the money, because it’s very poorly written. I’d even dare to say it’s more than poor; It’s horrible, honestly.

I have read the books. There are no vampires in Fifty Shades. They are comparing it to Twilight because of the angsty feel of the book....like Twilight. It was originally written and posted chapter by chapter on a Twilighters fan fic site. The story is basically about a young 20 something romance. Christian is the 27 yr old male protagonist is intelligent, wealthy, handsome and incredibly emotionally messed up. At an incredibly young age, (15 yrs old) he is inducted into the BDSM lifestyle by a family friend who is and older woman. Anastasia is the 22 yr old college co-ed who, sent by her sick friend to interview him, ends up making an unexpected impression on him. She is heady, fairly well adjusted and has a fiesty, take no bull attitude. From everything I have been reading people are making a huge deal out of the BDSM lifestyle in the book, but in truth it is quite tame compared to other authors I have read. I would call this more like, An introduction to BDSM 101, lol. People have asked if this is something a 17 year old could read. It depends on the 17 year old. It may make some people uncomfortable, while others will have no problem with it. If you have any doubt as to whether or not your young adult should read it, I strongly suggest reading it yourself first. This book does NOT advocate violence against women (or men) and neither does BDSM. I want to make that perfectly clear. It is a good read in my opinion. The characters although often times frustrating are indeed endearing. The book does have sexual situations and sexual scenarios, both vanilla and BDSM though the BDSM sexual scenarios are tame in my opinion.
