Social media was definitely the platform through which the revolution in Egypt gained its momentum. However, you have to realize that it was not the cause of the revolution. For several years people unsatisfied with the past regime have been sending secret messages online about how to effectively protest, how to withstand a tear gas attack, etc.
Social media just allowed these people to attract a lot of attention very quickly. You should try thinking about it on a bigger scale. It costs BILLIONS of dollars to run for presidency in the United States. The times are over when any average joe who had a dream could successfuly enter office. Social media could once again level the playing field in politics around the world. Ads |
